2025 Quilt and Craft Fair Brisbane

I was lucky enough to go to the Quilt and Craft fair in Brisbane recently. I was super lucky to run into some Quilty blogger friends, Susan, Lynda, Sandy and Maureen. We have met up here and there since we were going to “Girls Day in the Country” many years ago now. Love catching up.

I did a little shopping of course .

Shopping

This was in my goody bag

I did these 2 workshops just for fun

When I go to a quilt show I’m always amazed at the variety of quilts from beginners to the well experienced.

There are sewers and quilters.    ( from 2025. Queensland Quilt Show)
There are appliqué lovers , embroiderers and quilters. ……… .from the Houston Quilt Festival 2017

There are artists.   .from the Houston Quilt Festival 2017

There are puzzle makers.    .from the Houston Quilt Festival 2017

Which one are you ? or Are you a little of all ?

It’s always good to get a bit of inspiration from the Queensland Quilters exhibition.

There are so many talents out there. Of all quilters I think-

I didn’t take a lot of photos at the Quilt show but I thought this idea was particularly good and fun

The idea was one 8 inch square of a certain theme and colour per month per member. All 12 months were represented.

I don’t know why this caught my eye but it did . I think mainly because it looked like the house I lived in as a kid. And the colour… brave…. Fluor lime ….

Nearly Finished An Elk Quilt

The quilt my grandson and I started is now done. I just need to find a minke blanket for the back. That is also his request.

After some time I’m getting the last of my Chookshed Stitchers Challenges done. I’m quilting the  ‘My Favourite Things’ quilt . It was designed by Annie Downs of Hatched and Patched. I love this quilt. I didn’t quite make all my challenges but I did get quite few done which I’m happy about.

An Elk Quilt

When your 9 year old  grandson wants to go to your sewing room to find a quilt..

“ Grandma can I have a quilt like Poppy’s. ( That was the Bear Quilt I blogged about last year.)

“ I want a big elk and that soft furry stuff on the back. ( a minke backing )

“Let’s go and find a quilt”. He had to ask several times . Of course when you have a houseful you don’t really get time to quilt. He didn’t give up. We got to the quilt room and he was lucky to find a panel in my stash. Then HE went through the stash to find some matching fabric and then there was the design process and  some cutting and sewing. I taught him to cut and he cut some strips and then he sewed a block . I am sure he thought I could make the quilt in an afternoon. Learning to wait is hard for a 9 year old.

More to come !

Poppy’s bear quilt
We decided on a peeper then some random colour square with a strip of log cabin top and bottom . This is the block he made.
I think he did well with his colour choice.

Below are the photos from the internet that inspired him.

I

He was quite excited. when he found photos of the exact panel I had in my stash.

My Spring Garden

I love my garden even though it’s not as good as it should be since the old body doesn’t garden as well after a few operations but spring rarely lets me down. There are always little treasures on this 2.5 acres.
Early spring is the best time of the year in Goondiwindi. Cool mornings and evenings and beautiful sunny pleasant days. Enjoy my spring garden. Back to sewing next post !
.
Whoops two Floriade tulips just happened to make it home . They are made from spoons ?? At least they will survive the hot summer like the Desert Rose they share the pot with.
Dad’s flowers just getting started. These flowering inspired me to take the photos.
Hippeastrum
Finally getting the herb garden back. Anyone for parsley? Don’t know where the carrots are?
Coonamble daisies from Chookey’s country. Sold as a fundraiser for breast cancer.
The just throw it under the lily pilly tree and see if it survives.  They mostly do.
And they might drive the buggy home from the golf course.
.The Yesterday, Today , Tomorrow plant as it’s commonly known around here.

The May bush is almost done.

Enjoy your garden!
