 Day 2

Coonabarabran to Mirrool  NSW

So many little towns that have disappeared since their hay day. Mirrool was built on the grain and rail industry in the late 1800 and early 1900’s  The Royal Hotel was opened in 1917 and remains as proud as ever as the centre point of this village . One day a young aboriginal man asked what the $50 pinned above the bar was for. The publican told him if he could kick the football over the top to the other side of the grain silos he could have it and so he did. Then the annual Silo Kick was born on the first weekend in October every year. A famous AFL footballer has helped to promote it for  a couple of years but he wasn’t the first the locals say.
