Broken Hill

WARNING - LOTS OF PHOTOS

‘ The Owl House’ in Cummins St Broken Hill is a lovely B&B . Some detective work makes us think this was the house of the longest serving Mayor . It was a sandstone home, very old but very beautiful and exuded a rich time in the past. I’ve included some photos of Broken Hill , Silverton and the Living Desert-just for my own memories. If you’ve never been to this area before it is a very interesting part of Australia to visit. It is the outback. The outback that survives on our rich mineral deposits of silver, lead and zinc.

Beautiful bedrooms in Owl House

Very Elegant
Broken Hill and Silverton are famous for being a movie makers destination. Mad Max 2 was made near Silverton and Priscilla Queen of the Desert was made there as well. The Palace Hotel is famous for its murals which were featured in the movie .

Silverton Hotel

Silverton Hotel I wish you could read the signs. It was a woman’s rant I’m sure.

Not many trees to perch in out here.

Worth seeing if you ever saw the movie Mad Max 2 . They have quite a collection

Town Hall

The Living Desert is an interesting national park with nature and  art. 12  sculptures sit on the top of a ridge. Each one done by different artists from around the world. The wild flowers there are very  small and discrete but very beautiful.

Unfinished his daughter got very sick and had to leave

Finally the Big Picture at the Broken Hill Mint. This art work was incredible.

Just see the curve of the wall at the top

You can see the curve of the wall in this one. The whole thing floor to ceiling is a huge curve , like standing inside a huge rainwater tank .

Last stop Lightning Ridge. Next instalment
